Time for another DD, Track, Burn. Today, it's the Honda S2000, the Scion/Toyota/Subaru FRS, and the Mazda Miata (there will be an alternate version with the RX8 instead of the Miata at another time).

Burn MX5

DD: fr-s. Modern, good mileage and the only hardtop among them and the only one with four seats (ie extra cargo room).
Track: Miata. Easily the biggest aftermarket support for track day. It has its own spec class and parts are dirty cheap. Also, it is an absolute dream to work on. Timing belt change? No problem.
Burn: S2000. Overrated. It's Martin claim to fame is a hp/l flame war. Sure is good looking, but it doesn't respond well to mods (certainly not compared to the Miata), doesn't get good mileage and I have no desire to DD a drop top in the winter.

Daily s2000
Track frs
Burn miata
Frs just doesn't have enough torque for me to daily. I took one on a test drive before I bought my mustang. They were the same price. Anyway, motley of my driving is highway, and the frs just felt like it was being pushed too hard for too long. Now on the slower curvy roads it wa a ton of fun. Oh, and the miata is too small for me. I just look funny in one.

Yeah, I'm 6'3", and I've never tried a Miata, but I would imagine that I would not fit very well. My father is 6'4" (That is what he says, I think he is taller) and he wanted to buy a Miata as one of his first cars in America, but he could not fit at all at the time (no clue how he went from wanting to buy a Miata to buying a minivan). Also I've tried the FRS twice and I feel that it has enough power, but I think that it's just a tiny bit too low, but I'd be willing to deal with it. Sadly, in Michigan, the roads are so bumpy that my back would be broken very quickly from how hard the FRS would hit the bumps and potholes.

DD: '86 (because interior space)
Track: Honda (because over 200hp, plus picking the Miata for the track was too easy)
Burn: Mazda

I have had/driven a lot all three. If I had to pick, the S2000 wins every time. It's head and shoulders above the other cars. The Miata is a good introductory RWD for a first car, but in the next few years it will be losing popularity unless Mazda steps up their effort. Their competition just looks too much better.
